The Ultimate Imagination “Build for a Cause” Charity Challenge
LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Chicago pits kids against grown-ups in this test of creativity
LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Chicago is donating 100,000 LEGO® bricks to four local charities, and they’re challenging kids and adults to go head-to-head to help decide which charity will get the lion’s share! From July 5 through July 31, families can show off their creativity and participate in Build for a Cause by coming to LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Schaumburg. There will be build challenges every other hour and participants will compete for the charity of their choice: Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicago and Northwest Indiana, Easterseals, After School Matters or Big Brothers Big Sisters.
During Build for a Cause, competitors will square-off, grown-ups vs kids. Each person will use their imagination and creativity to build a unique LEGO model. At the conclusion of each competition, all participants will receive a prize, winners will be announced and each winner can score a tally for their favorite organization. At the conclusion of the entire initiative, the tallies will be totaled and the top-scoring organization will receive 40,000 LEGO bricks, while the other three will receive 20,000 LEGO bricks each.
Not only will Build for a Cause support Chicagoland charities, it will also ignite the imaginations of kids and grown-ups alike. Watch it come to life in a short film: https://youtu.be/E3HqYXez1H8. The film depicts what happens when a handful of families at a LEGOLAND Discovery Center battle it out to determine who reigns supreme when it comes to creative play: the kids or the grown-ups. Many believe that creativity declines with age and that kids have the upper hand when it comes to the imagination.
As expert playmakers that can teach parents how to play, the challenge also aims to examine whether the decline in creativity is reversible. In the short film, families are tasked with building a creation straight from their imagination – no limits, no boundaries, no rules – just pure creativity!
“LEGOLAND Discovery Centers are designed to provide LEGO play experiences that power creativity and learning through shared LEGO fun for adults and children,” said LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago Master Model Builder Greg Nuse. “We are thrilled to see the energy and imagination that went into the challenge from both kids and adults and look forward to welcoming families to LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago to have a go.”
