Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra Incredible Opportunity Program
Students ages 8-17 who do not have a string program offered at their school are invited to apply to the Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra Incredible Opportunity Program.
Since 2010, the orchestra has sponsored 8-20 children yearly who wish to play string instrument who do not have a string program in their school. Many have continued to play in the Suburban Youth Symphony orchestra as well as other orchestras and have found a love of music and string instrument playing through the program.
“Because so many schools in the south and southwest suburbs do not have school music programs that offer string instrumental instruction, we needed a way to encourage more students to play string instruments,” said Janet Kuester, Executive Director.
Students meet weekly on Sundays from 3-4PM at Hope Christian Reformed Church in Oak Forest and receive weekly beginning group instrumental instruction in the instrument of their choice: violin, viola, cello, or bass.
Students pay total low cost of $35/month for rental of instrument and instruction September through April and perform in 3 concerts.
The Suburban Youth Symphony is a 503c not for profit orchestra that serves children 8-17 in the south/southwest region by providing an opportunity to play string, orchestral, and chamber music.
