Trinity Offers New Accelerated
Dual Teaching Certification Program
To help meet the demand of the state-wide shortage of special education teachers, Trinity Christian College is offering a new dual teaching certification program.  Through Trinity’s Adult Studies Accelerated Program, students will earn dual certification in special education as well as elementary or secondary education. “Over the last nine years, our accelerated education program has been the catalyst for many successful teachers,” said Lori Scrementi, director of Adult Studies programs.  “We recognized a need for an accelerated special education program and are now pleased to offer that program as well.”
Through in-depth coursework, proven methodology, and hands-on classroom skills, students will be equipped to work with special needs students ages 3-22 with low and high incidence disabilities. “Students will not only be filling a need for qualified special education teachers, but they will be showing that every child is deserving of compassion and quality care,” Scrementi added. Classes meet one night a week, and students earn their certification in less than three years. Adult learners 23 years of age or older work together in groups of up to 20, called cohorts, which become a support network and family. Classes begin September 3, 2009. Those interested in this new program should contact Trinity by calling (708) 239-4768 or visiting www.trnty.edu/adultstudies.
