Community colleges play an important role in boosting the education and job readiness of the workforce.
“In an economy where jobs requiring at least an associate’s degree are projected to grow twice as fast as jobs requiring no college experience, it’s never been more essential to continue education and training after high school,” said President Barack Obama. “Our community colleges can serve as 21st century job training centers working with local businesses to help workers learn the skills they need to fill the jobs of the future.”
Locally, Kankakee Community College offers programs to meet community needs.
“Our mission is to be an avenue where people can turn for solutions,” said KCC’s president, Dr. John Avendano.  “Our students and graduates often find better paying jobs, and they contribute more to our local economy as residents and consumers.”
KCC offers the first two years of a bachelor’s degree, which saves students thousands of dollars. In all, the college has more than 55 options, including transfer and occupational programs. Students also may choose a course or two to update skills or satisfy personal interests.
